Relax , unwind, enjoy
I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at this hotel. We were here on a two night stay bed and breakfast and booked through Agoda for a very reasonable price. My wife and I have been to many hotels over the years and I would say this was one of the stand outs. We were mainly touring and eating out so we just had breakfast in the hotel. The selection was good with tasty cooked selection with the usual selection but good quality bacon ,sausages and mushrooms . There were many juices available with good quality orange juice , a selection of yoghurt including fantastic Greek yoghurt so thick you could almost stand on it mixed with dark fruits and honey amazing I had it each morning . No shortage of coffee machines I think there were at least three maybe more plus hot water machine, good selection of large quality croissants even chocolate muffins. Some people have commented negatively about the staff I did not find this to be true at all. All the staff I had contact with were pleasant efficient young people and a credit tor the hotels training and recruitment department. One real bonus were the various walks marked out around the pleasant hotel grounds which we did one morning after breakfast in the lovely weather, fantastic and very peaceful. We had a room with scaffolding outside which was not a problem as nobody was working on it in fact we had house martins nests just above our window on the top floor and it was mesmerising watching hundreds of them flying about catching food for their young! The room was good size decorated pleasantly with large king size bed very clean a fridge and even a safe very unusual in a UK hotel. The Aircon was another bonus in the hot weather easy to operate and very powerful I conclusion I would come back again without any hesitation.
Lovely stay
We had a really nice stay. The hotel is in a lovely location, and the facilities are very good. The building is very impressive, with many of the original features intact. The spa is very good but in need of a spot of paint in places. We had an issue at dinner: it was clear the hotel was understaffed, and we had to wait well over an hour for our main course. Nevertheless, the duty manager handled the situation brilliantly. We found all the staff friendly and helpful, which made the stay overall excellent. Well done.
Nice break
Had 2 night stay and found the hotel extreamly welcoming. As has been said previously the rooms could do with updating, that said they were clean, comfortable and the air conditioning was excellent over the two very warm days. Excellent quality food at breakfast and plentiful. Would definitely return.
Lovely Spa Break
My partner and I visited for a one night spa break to celebrate our graduation. We had an absolutely lovely time. Staff couldn’t do enough for us. Checking in was perfect - Kate and Sianleigh were very attentive and patient with other guests and ourselves. The room was spotless and spacious. The health club and spa was amazing. Our massage therapists Lauren and Phoebe were brilliant and very knowledgeable. They both made us feel really comfortable and (to be very candid) we both commented they were the best massages we’d ever had! I also really liked the restricted times for children to enter the pool facilities as the noise is something I personally like to avoid. We had dinner in their main restaurant. Service was quick and attentive, staff were always on hand to help and the food was delicious! I would highly recommend. Over all an absolutely amazing and restful night away with beautiful views. We will be back. Thank you to all the staff for making our stay special!
Lovely hotel in wonderful location
Wonderful location and views especially in the glorious weather. Room was a good size and comfortable. Lovely to have a view over the golf course. We did one of the walks around the grounds and only issue was part of it was heavily overgrown so had to at times walk up the edge of the fairways - may be a little dicey for any non-golfers unaware of risks (especially as one fairway with a blind spot).
Lovely stay in a lovely setting
Looking at some of the recent reviews maybe we landed lucky. We had dinner with a very friendly waitress who was very prompt at serving us. Similarly no complaints about breakfast. The room was spacious with comfortable beds. The only point l would agree with previous reviews is the room could be upgraded such as providing small fridges for guests
Great Golfing Trip
Beautiful location, atmosphere chilled, rooms clean and tidy, staff great and food excellent. Would definately go again
Family room review
Stayed in a family room on a Saturday night. Here’s the pros and cons - this room cost me £40 more than a family room at premier Inn. Here’s how I valued it. Rooms are rubbish no plugs anywhere, my room was dated but shower was good and bedding clean. Spa was decent for an hour or so and went for a walk round the grounds. Evening meal and breakfast both good no issues with service so no complaints. It’s not a five star resort but neither are you paying five star prices.
Another enjoyable stay with a few areas for improvement
Another enjoyable stay with a few areas for improvement This was our 8th stay at Slaley Hall, which says a lot about how much we enjoy staying here. We always look forward to returning, and it’s a lovely place for a relaxing break. We really enjoyed our afternoon bar meal, which was excellent as always. The only slight disappointment was the breakfast, which was a little hit and miss compared with previous visits. One thing we did notice was that the atmosphere around the hotel felt much more relaxed this time, which made for a very enjoyable stay. The main area that could do with improvement is the spa. The jacuzzi is simply too small for the number of guests wanting to use it, so it often felt overcrowded and there was usually a wait to use it. Given how popular the spa is, improving this area would make a big difference to the overall guest experience. Another area that would benefit from some attention is the seating in and around the bar. Many of the sofas are looking very tired and worn and are no longer particularly comfortable. Replacing or refurbishing them would make these areas much more inviting. Overall, we had another lovely stay and will no doubt be returning for a ninth visit. We hope these small improvements can be made, as Slaley Hall remains one of our favourite places to stay.
Dinner menu
We visited forv4 nights. Love the hotel, location and room was superb. Staff were great. Only critism was dinner menu never changed. I am not a fish lover and there were 4 fish dishes on menu. 2 lamb dishes (which I don't much enjoy) Had the bolognese which hardly had any spaghetti and was just sauce so didn't try the ravioli. I had the pie 2 nights, fish and chips another. Only other option was burger. Starters were no better as same soup every night. My husband had to return his sirloin steak the first night as was unbeatable and chips cold. His other 3 dinners were delicious he said. Stayed numerous times and this is the worst menu selection we have ever had. We love this hotel and will certainly go again but hopefully menu will improve
Short stay - lovely setting and service
Lovely break in a wonderful setting. Dinner bed and breakfast Sunday to Monday. Our daughter and granddaughter enjoyed the pool, the gardens and the atmosphere. Busy with golfers but great service especially Louise in the restaurant. Recommend book early supper and relax
Lovely experience
Just.finished amazing afternoon tea. Probably the best ive had anywhere. Lovely decor and surroundings. Very elegant. Made even more special by our lovely waiter Luca, who was attentive without being intrusive. Will definitely return. Many thanks for a lovely birthday treat.
A little tired
We had a nice time and staff were all very friendly and helpful. A wedding in progress when we arrived. Nice to see but unfortunate that the wedding guest were sharing the same bar as hotel guests for quite some time. Disappointed to see so many of the chairs were tired looking, ripped or worn and lots of bits of paintwork chipped. An easy fix with a quick touch up. Otherwise an enjoyable break in a nice setting.
Loved it! Exceptional stay
Had a lovely stay and spa. Really enjoyed our treatments and we were chosen for guest of the day and given some lovely extras! Very grateful. Our evening meal was exceptional as was the service. Breakfast was also lovely and a massive variety. Our room was beautiful my only issue was how hard the mattress was! Made sleeping uncomfortable but that was my preference. Can’t fault the hotel or staff Gorgous stay
Great experience overall but
Lovely staff and great facilities however the room can do with some maintenance and updating. Would definitively come back just for the treatment alone.
Everything on point.
Slaley Hall was fantastic. The food was phenomenal, our room was superior and really comfortable, and the pool was great for relaxing. We’ll definitely stay again in the future.
Birthday treat overnight stay
Great food lovely sized bedrooms and very well equipped. A lovely birthday overnight stay with my daughter which included a spa break. Only complaint was dirty glass coffee tables in the little drinks room off the pub. The grounds were amazing had a lovely walk through.
A fabulous stay at Saley Hall
We visited to celebrate my friends 21st birthday last weekend and had a fabulous time. The hall and grounds are stunning. The staff were very friendly too. We booked the overnight stay with a spa treatment, dinner and breakfast the next morning. We enjoyed a drink in the bar when we first arrived and then checked in to a lovely room which was very clean and spacious. We then headed to the spa area where we went for our massages. They were very accommodating as my friends is pregnant and were able to provide a pregnancy massage. However, we both did find both of our masseuses didn’t stop talking the whole 50 minutes of the treatment. Which is nice and friendly, but it’s not what you want during a relaxing massage. Unfortunately, I don’t think there was a minute of silence during my massage. The evening meal was lovely, we were both able to get £35 off our main meals each because of the package we booked, which is a great deal! The breakfast the next morning was also very nice. Overall, we had a lovely time and most importantly, my friend had a nice birthday. I would definitely stay again and recommend it to anyone. It’s good value for money for what’s included.
